Having the Courage to Start
Are you someone that is afraid to start new projects, step into new roles or take on new commitments? Do you find it tough to have hard conversations with other people, or are you hard on yourself?
Perfectionism may be a big piece of what’s holding you back. Most of us want to do things well. We want to communicate with others efficiently and effectively; we want to excel in our career; and we don’t wait to fail in any department of life. However, sometimes this pressure that we put on ourselves can hold us back from succeeding at all! On a scale of 1-10, we want to be as close to 10 as possible.
What if we focused on moving from 0 to 1 instead? What if we just simply made the decision to start, speak up, step forward? Instead of starting and putting so much pressure on yourself to perform 10/10, just START. Move from 0 to 1, and then 2, and then 3, and so on…
This is called a binary mindset: just start and you will get better as you go. You can't be a 10 if you stay at 0 because you’re afraid to start. You can only reach the top if you are willing to start climbing!
