The Importance of Exploration
When is the last time you EXPLORED? That word conjures up childhood images for me. My grandparents lived on a farm when I was a kid and it was an exploration mecca. Haybale jumping, fishing on the ponds, tadpole and frog catching, corn picking (and eating!), tractor riding…the list goes on.
I smile just thinking about running around with my brothers and my cousins…the adults had to beg us to come inside to eat! I can still taste the salty sweat on those hot summer days. We always came home completely worn out – the back of our station wagon was always my bed on the way back home. Sound asleep every time.
As adults, it takes a little more thought and effort to be in “EXPLORATION MODE.” We have to challenge ourselves to think about an avenue for exploration for our adult selves. We’re so rooted in routine and schedules that most of the time, I find it hard to even access that creative mojo.
I’ve found that ART EXPLORATION is a catalyst to LETTING GO for me. It’s not about masterpieces…it’s about the messy journey...the PROCESS, not the product. Doodling and drawing and painting help me to process my thoughts and feelings visually. Getting lost in the flow of creativity has been an avenue of healing for me. Creative expression, reflection, emotional release…it’s cathartic. When is the last time you allowed yourself to GET MESSY and LET GO? Get out that old tub of arts & crafts tools – watercolors, acrylic paints or even just a pencil and a piece of paper. Turn on some tunes and doodle away…see where it leads!
We are going to share ways of exploring creatively at our next Happier Hour! Hope to see you there!!!
