The Importance of Taking a Brave Step

Next week I fly to the South of France to begin a 500+ mile hike to the West coast of Spain. For me, this is a combo trip of spiritual pilgrimage, book writing, and stretching my personal endurance. My husband will meet me in Spain at the end of my 50 days of walking and my college-aged kids are cheering me on.

It all sounds exciting until you are the one that actually has to put on the backpack and walk. I am facing adventure and bravery in a way I never have before in my life. For over twenty years I have lived with the unknowns of multiple sclerosis, I have experienced miscarriage and infertility wondering if I could ever be a mother, I have said hard goodbyes to people I love, but this one feels so different. I’m walking this trek alone and without a group to rely on. My fear is rooted in my limiting beliefs about what I’m capable of. Every time I think of cancelling, a deeper sense of calling rises within. I know I’m supposed to do this, but the first few days I will likely feel very unsure of myself. I’m hoping the afraid me surrenders to let the strong me take the lead and we will return as one whole self, but that will not happen unless I start walking toward my own soul. It’s time for an adventure and a new level of growth.

If you have an adventure stirring inside you, tap into that deep well of inner courage (which resides within all of us but we forget it’s there.) Explore a first small step toward that calling and watch your sense of aliveness return. I’m with you every step of the way!
